On September 16 of 2023, a hacker named “teapotuberhacker” shared 90 clips and various assets of the GTA 6 map, on a fan forum titled GTAForum. The leaks were quickly shared on other online gaming forums and social media sites.

Included in the leaks were videos, assets, and codes from the source files. On the same day, various subreddits and forums where the leaks were circulating received emails from Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar employees. It confirmed that the leaks were original.
