Arsenal vs Atlético de Madrid Match Report

Arsenal hosted Atlético in the reverse fixture of their Champions League semi final at the Emirates, a chance to win the game and confirm their spot in this season’s final. The English side looked in control from the very beginning, with continuous attacking threats against the Spanish outfit.

The only big break in the game came in the 44th minute from the home side. Bukayo Saka handed the Gunners a major boost when he scored from a tap-in range after Atleti’s defense and keeper fumbled the ball, which made the English superstar charge for the ball and score.

The second half saw some bold moves in terms of substitutions from Diego Simeone, followed by even bolder subs made by Mikel Arteta.

In the 57th minute, Simeone brought on Cardoso for Giuliano, Sorloth for Le Normand, and Molina for Mola Lookman as a tactical change to push his team to attack. The very next minute, Arteta subbed in Hincapie, Odegaard, and Madueke for Calafiori, Eze, and Saka, respectively.

Simeone again made a bold move in the 66th minute, subbing both Griezmann and Alvarez out for Baena and Almada, a decision football fans felt shouldn’t have been taken, as Atleti needed to score a goal at all costs.

Arsenal defended the lead with everything on the line in the second half, restricting Atleti to have the least attacking threat possible. And as soon as the final whistle was blown, the North London side confirmed their seats for Budapest for the UEFA Champions League Final, making them the first team to qualify for the match on Tuesday.

Arsenal will face French champions and the current UCL winners, PSG, at the Puskas Arena on May 30!
