Real Madrid CF 1 – 2 FC Bayern Munich

German Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid at Stade Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the 2025-26 Champions League quarter-finals. Goals from Luis Diaz and Harry Kane sealed a narrow 2 – 1 victory for the German champions, who host Real Madrid tomorrow at the Allianz Arena. 

Bayern Munich looked in control of the tie from the kick-off, with a series of attacks being launched by the Bavarian forwards to neutralize any threat Real Madrid possesses, and to kill the tie in the first leg. Gnabry, Olise, Kane, and Diaz all looked in sublime form. 

In the second half, however, Real Madrid looked threatening, with attacks coming from Mbappe and Vini Jr., but Manuel Neuer denied both of them with a colossal goalkeeping performance away from home. The Spanish club managed to score one goal as Trent’s pass curled in for Mbappe to score in the 74th minute of the game. 

Vincent Kompany became the first manager in more than 14 years to defeat Real Madrid in Spain as Bayern’s manager.

It was a big night for Viktor Gyokeres as the Swede headed to Sporting for the first time since moving to Arsenal last year from the Portuguese club.
