Teams to watch out for in the League Phase of UCL 2025-26

  • Paris St. Germain

Fresh off winning the Champions League for the first time in their history for the 2024-25 season, PSG will be looking to terrorize their opponents in Europe for the second year straight. Luis Enrique is on a mission after missing out on the FIFA Club World Cup Gold back in July.

  • Liverpool FC

Liverpool were the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League 2024-25, after Luis Enrique’s team completely outclassed them at Anfield and went on to win the whole thing.

After a big summer from the English Champions in the transfer market, adding players like Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and record-breaking transfers including Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz from the Bundesliga plus the deadline day bomb signing from Newcastle United, Alexander Isak, Arne Slot is ready to make his mark in the European football with the 7th Champions League title for the Reds.

  • Real Madrid

The Reyes De Europa, the Undisputed Kings of Europe, you can never count them out. There is a reason they have won the competition 15 times in their history, almost twice as many as the second-most title-winning teams in the competition. After losing to Arteta’s Arsenal both home and away last season, this year’s team has undergone a massive overhaul, starting with their manager, as Xabi Alonso took over from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer. Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras, and Franco Mastantuono are some of the reinforcements made under Xabi in his first season with Los Blancos, to challenge for this season’s title.

  • Arsenal

Arteta’s Gunners have been a consistent team in the Premier League for a while now; however, they have always missed the chance to win the crown. Last season, Arsenal got very close to UCL success, until they met PSG in the semi-finals. This year, after a number of reinforcements in the required sectors, especially the signing of Victor Gyokeres, Arsenal are ready to challenge for the title this season.

  • Chelsea

You can not count the club out of this season’s UEFA Champions League, which just defeated the champions of Europe in the FIFA Club World Cup back in July. Chelsea Football Club, managed by Enzo Maresca and led by Reece James and Enzo Fernandes, is ready to wreak havoc in Europe after missing out on the competition last season, as the club competed in and won the UEFA Conference League.

  • Manchester City

After having their worst-ever season since Pep Guardiola took over the club, Man City’s ownership has continued to show its support for the Spaniard. The 2x treble-winning manager was handed all the necessary budget to reinforce his team in the summer transfer window. Additions like Tijani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and Gigi Donnarumma have just been some of the star signings that are ready to take City back to the top!

  • FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona has been a treat to watch under Hansi Flick, with the high-intensity, high-scoring, and direct football they play. With the addition of Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia to the club, Barca is ready to challenge for what was once theirs.

  • Napoli

The Italian team has been a powerhouse since Conte took charge, a force to be reckoned with in Europe. With the necessary summer reinforcements and high-profiles like Kevin de Bruyne and Rasmus Hojlund, Conte’s men will prove to be very difficult for the opponents in this season’s Champions League.

  • Bayern München

The German champions have always turned up big in the UEFA Champions League, and this time won’t be any different either. The attacking philosophy under Vincent Kompany is hard to cope with for any sort of opposition. It could be the season the 7th UCL badge gets added to their sleeve.

  • Inter Milan

Since Simone Inzaghi left Inter after the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 final to become the boss of the Saudi side Al-Hilal, major news outlets and football fans completely mistook Inter for the team they were going to become. Under Chivu, Inter is currently fighting for the Scudetto within the top 4. While in the Champions League this season, they are one of the 3 teams on Matchday 4 that are currently unbeaten in the League Phase.

In Preview: Hottest Fixtures of Matchday 5

Here are some of the most exciting matchups to look out for this matchday:

Manchester City vs Bayer Leverkusen — November 25

After losing to Newcastle over the weekend, Pep Guardiola will be looking forward to making a statement, rather than losing two games in a row. Currently sitting at 4th in the Champions League table, Man City faces the ‘24 Bundesliga winners, who sit on 21 points at the table, Bayer Leverkusen. For City youngster and loanee Claudio Eccheverri, it’s going to be a big test to prove to the City boss that he’s ready to star at the Etihad starting next season.

Prediction: City 3 – 1 Leverkusen

Chelsea vs FC Barcelona — November 25

A high-stakes match in the Champions League; Chelsea is set to face FC Barcelona for the 15th time in the prestigious competition, 7 years after their last meeting in the Round of 16 of season 2017-18. FC Barcelona progressed to the latter stage of the competition back then, thanks to Leo Messi and an aggregate score of 4 – 1 against the Blues.

This time, however, both teams look so much different than what they did the last time they met. Marc Guiu will be facing the team that made him the star he is today, with two young squads against each other.

Barca sits in the 11th position currently in the UCL table, with Chelsea on 12th.

Prediction: Chelsea 2 – 2 Barca

Olympique Marseille vs Newcastle United — November 25

Roberto de Zerbi knows a thing or two about facing English opposition from his time at Brighton, and his team knows a thing or two about breaking records. The two sides have only faced off against each other twice before, back in UEFA Europa League season 2003-04, with Marseille winning the semi-final on an aggregate score of 2 – 0.

Tonight, the two teams will meet for just the third time in an official competition, at the Orange Vélodrome, with a record of 6-1-1 this season for the French team.

Despite Newcastle sitting on 6th and Marseille at 25, the French team is the clear favorite to win at their home.

Prediction: OM 3 – 2 Newcastle

Paris St. Germain vs Tottenham Hotspur — November 26

The replay of last season’s UEFA Super Cup is set to take place on Matchday 5, with Spurs traveling all the way to the French capital to face off against PSG. Last season’s UCL winners defeated last season’s Europa League winners in the Super Cup clash; however, Thomas Frank would love a rematch.

Spurs were beaten by Arsenal in the NLD at the weekend, while PSG enjoyed a 3 – 0 victory over Le Havre last Saturday.

Prediction: PSG 4 – 2 Spurs

Atletico de Madrid vs Inter Milan — November 26

A match almost two years in the making, Inter have finally got the chance to avenge their defeat in the 2023-24 RO16 when Atleti knocked them out of the semi-finals on penalties. Both teams have played thrice against each other, with Atleti having the better of the Nerazzuri on two of those occasions.

Inter under Chivu have been a threat, especially in their attacking prowess. While Atleti under Simeone have finally found their rhythm late in the season. Playing at the Metropolitano will be tough for Inter; however, it’s not right to undermine Chivu’s men.

Prediction: Atleti 2 – 3 Inter

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich — November 26

The biggest game of this week’s UCL clashes, Bayern Munich travel to London to face the Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Emirates. The two teams have met 14 times in the Champions League, with Bayern winning 8 games to Arsenal’s 3.

Their most recent face-off came in the 2023-24 season, in the quarter-finals, with Bayern progressing to the semis on an aggregate score of 3-2.

Arsenal haven’t conceded a single goal in the Champions League this season, but with Gabriel out of action for a while, we may see Kompany’s men make the most of their goal-scoring abilities.

Both of these clubs sit at the top of the UCL table before matchday #5, both unbeaten. Would one team finally lose its first game in the league phase? Stay tuned.

Prediction: Arsenal 2 – 2 Bayern Munich
