Arsenal vs Manchester United Match Report

The full Manchester United vs Arsenal match report:

A Game for Two

The game started on the front foot for both teams. Arsenal looked calm and collective playing at the Emirates, while Man United looked like they were there to prove a point and win all three points to take to Manchester.

Arsenal won a couple of set pieces in the opening half an hour, with United goalkeeper Lammens making the most of his feet and hands in claiming and denying Arsenal any early lead.

Martinez for Arsenal

Just after the half-hour mark, Saka controlled the ball in the opponent’s box, rolled it to Odegaard, who delivered a cross inside to Timber, who was being marked by the Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez. Under pressure from the Dutchman, he miscued the ball and, instead of clearing it, ended up scoring an own goal. Arsenal took the lead, and Arteta’s happiness was quite visible from the sidelines.

Zubimendi assists Bryan

United, despite trailing, showed no signs of giving up. Instead, they were quick to add pressure to the opponent and get one back for the team. Bruno Fernandes fired two back-to-back in quick succession; however, he was unlucky both times in scoring. Nevertheless, it took a few minutes for the Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo to get one back for the visitors, after he capitalized on a mistake from Zubimendi ,who played the ball back to Raya, under pressure from the United attack.

Ballon D’orgu

Both United and Arsenal headed into the tunnel with 1 goal each at the half-time mark. It took just 5 minutes after the restart for Dorgu to hit a screamer in front of the traveling fans after a cheeky flick from Bruno Fernandes.

Merino from Set Piece

After what looked like United were to win the game at the Emirates, Arsenal were convinced to win a point at least. With a quadruple substitution from the Arsenal boss after the one-hour mark, it took a couple of set pieces for Mikel Merino to finally equalize from a corner, as Sesko failed to clear his attempt from the goal line. This guaranteed one point for the Gunners.

Cunha wraps it up in North London

When everyone felt Arsenal had extended their lead to 5 points at the table, Matheus Cunha had the last say. His long-range goal in the 87th minute of the game was the game decider, as Raya was unable to stop it, with Gabriel unable to mark his national team mate before he took the long-range shot.

The Final Say

New manager on the bounce or a breath of fresh air, whatever it is, it’s working like a charm for Manchester United since appointing Michael Carrick as the interim manager till the end of the season. Taking up the reins from Ruben Amorim’s fighting Man United to winless in two games under the caretaker manager Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick has done a job well done in his first two games in charge of Man United, beating Man City and Arsenal in back-to-back games in the Premier League.
