When the two last met on March 8, no one would have thought Pereira would lose his title, that too by a unanimous decision. Ankalaev and Poatan went head-to-head; however, Ankalaev was strategically better than him, delivering significant strikes earlier in the fight, and then just absorbing the pressure in the later rounds.
