David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade, both esteemed super middleweight contenders, are in the advanced negotiation phase for a Las Vegas PPV fight in the upcoming fall. This highly anticipated bout has stirred immense enthusiasm among boxing enthusiasts, promising an enthralling clash between these exceptionally skilled fighters.
David Benavidez, the current interim WBC super middleweight champion, is preparing for his second title defense, as per reports. As confirmed by ESPN’s Julius Julianis, Benavidez is scheduled to battle Demetrius Andrade on November 24, putting his title at stake in a PBC on Showtime pay-per-view event.
With a record of 27 wins and no losses, including 23 knockouts, Benavidez recently secured a unanimous victory against Caleb Plant in March. His interim WBC title was obtained in May 2022 after a third-round TKO against David Lemieux.
Considered one of the sport’s emerging talents at 26 years old, Benavidez may pave his way for a face-off with the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez provided he overcomes Andrade.
Recently, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman mentioned Benavidez as the mandatory challenger for Alvarez in the 168-pound category. Alvarez’s upcoming defense is against the undisputed light middleweight champion, Jermell Charlo, scheduled for September 30.
Andrade, with 32 wins and 0 losses, including 19 knockouts, previously held the WBO middleweight title until 2022. He relinquished the title in August due to his objection against defending it against Janibek Alimkhanuly. Although lined up for an interim super middleweight title fight against Zach Parker, he withdrew from that bout, potentially positioning himself to face Alvarez.
After a 14-month hiatus, Andrade returned to the ring in January, engaging in a 10-round match against Demond Nicholson and securing a victory through unanimous decision.
Currently 35 years old, Andrade finds another chance to edge closer to a potential bout with Alvarez, provided he defeats Benavidez.
